WHO
MOA.studio was founded by me, Matthew Oczkowski, and represents over a decade of dedication to residential architecture and a passion for creating positive impacts through design. This page outlines my core beliefs on design and housing, reflecting the principles that guide my practice.
Beyond architecture, I am an avid traveller and hobby photographer. The diverse cultures, cities, and landscapes I encounter continually enrich my architectural vision. At the end of the page, you’ll find a gallery from some of my travels, offering a glimpse into the experiences that shape the person I am today.
DESIGN
At the core of my beliefs, good home design goes beyond functionality; it’s about creating environments that evoke happiness and reflect the uniqueness of those who live in them. Whether it’s as simple as the comfort of coming home after a long day; the pride felt with your new house; enjoying the setting sun as you eat dinner in your space or watching your young family grow in an enriching home, each project presents an opportunity to enhance the lives of its occupants.
BETTER HOUSING
My passion extends beyond design aesthetics to advocating for more energy-efficient homes. This isn’t just about reducing running costs; it’s about profoundly improving comfort. My frustration with the prevailing standards in the industry, where profit takes precedence over quality, fuels this drive for change. Too often, we witness the consequences of hastily constructed homes that fail to meet basic standards. I firmly believe that we can do better by prioritizing improvements without inflating budgets unnecessarily.

PERSONAL
Every home should be as unique as the people who live in it. I prioritise understanding my clients’ lifestyles, preferences, and needs to tailor each project to their specific requirements. Personalisation ensures that each design truly feels like home, reflecting the individuality and essence of its inhabitants.
FUNCTIONAL
Practicality is at the heart of great design. As a design architect, I believe that a home should not only be aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and practical for everyday living. Thoughtful space planning, efficient layouts, and user-friendly designs are essential to creating homes that enhance the daily lives of their occupants. Each element of the design is carefully considered to ensure it serves a purpose and adds value to the overall living experience.
COMMUNITY
Community is important to me. As a committee member of the Spotswood Traders Association, I actively contribute to initiatives that support local businesses and improve public spaces. This involvement helps foster a sense of belonging among residents and brings me joy.
This also extends to my approach to home design. I believe homes are integral parts of neighborhoods that thrive on connection and collaboration. I would much rather be designing forever homes for residents than developments for profit-driven developers.
INSPIRATION
Travel is a significant source of inspiration in my life, broadening my perspective and enriching my design approach for the better. I’ve been lucky enough to have seen some of the world’s greatest buildings and experience many diverse natural landscapes.
